Anderson, an artist, author, activist, traditional textile and craft researcher will show a range of her work. Her exhibit includes photos, paintings, drawings and relief prints. Her art and photography come out of her many stays in Guatemala, dating back to1966; her last trip in 2016. She takes the long view on the past and present role of crafts and culture as they relate to creating community as well as their relationship to the conflicts, refugees situation, and the environment.

To produce the forty prints on view, she challenged herself to depict most of the important arts and crafts produced in Guatemala. These prints form the body of her newest 2016 bilingual book: Guardians of the Arts / Guardianes del arte.

Many of the photographs in the exhibit of artist-crafts people have appeared in other books and exhibits. A selection of portraits of Mayan women are from Granddaughters of Corn (Anderson-Garlock)(1988). The drawings and paintings are of a number of subjects. The latter have special meaning to her since, as an artist she began her career doing drawing and painting.

In her lecture, she uses her book: Guardians of the Arts / Guardianes del Arte, as the organizing framework. Other images of photographs and transparencies made over years add to her presentation.

At the opening, copies of her newest book will be available for sale.
